Spring Trip to Teviot Water Gardens – Wednesday 23rd May

We have arranged a day out for carers to Teviot Water Gardens on Wednesday 23rd May.  This will be a marvellous opportunity to enjoy the Water Gardens as well as catching up with friends “old” and “new”.  The Water Gardens feature aquatic plants and attractive fish as well as nice cafes and restaurants.  We have organised coach travel there and back from various points in East Lothian.  Please contact us by Wednesday 16th May at the latest to book your place.

Carers Week

The week of 11th to 17th June is Carers Week, the national awareness week for all carers.  You may well see features about carers in papers, on TV and radio and on the Internet.  Carers Week also brings a range of special events taking place to mark the contribution that carers make to the care of their loved ones.  At CoEL our main activities taking place during the week:

We are holding a Social event on Tuesday 12th June from 2.00pm to 4.00pm at the Ravelston House Hotel, Musselburgh.  The event is for carers and those you look after, and will feature entertainment and light refreshments.

Our party of carers and family members will be heading to Pontin’s in Blackpool for the week along with carers from all over the UK for the PRTC/Norwich Union holiday.

IT Tutorials

Based on the positive feedback from previous courses we made a successful grant application to Awards for All to put on a new series of computer workshops for carers.  These events will run at various venues throughout the county and will start at the end of June.  The courses will continue for a year so everyone will have a chance to take part at some point.  If you would like to book a place or find out further information please contact Ingrid at the Carers Centre on (0131) 665 0135.

EGM

We will be holding an Extraordinary General Meeting on Tuesday 12th June at 2.00pm at the Ravelston House Hotel, Musselburgh.  The sole purpose of the EGM will be to change our constitution to bring it in line with regulations under the new Charities Act.  The meeting will take place immediately prior to the Carers Week social event and we do not see it lasting more than a few minutes

SKIP Rocks

SKIP (Special Kids In Play) are having a re-launch Funday called ‘SKIP Rocks’ on Saturday 16th June from 10.00am to 4.00pm at Meadowmill Sports Centre in Prestonpans.  SKIP offer support to parents and carers with sensory, mobility, language/communication and behavioural difficulties.  They run trips, parties and social events throughout the year, and a fortnightly support group in the Brunton Hall in Musselburgh.  For more information about SKIP please contact Joyce Cattanach on (01368) 862526.
