Every day of Carers Week 2020 we will share an audio recording of a poem chosen and read by our carer support workers Mags Bryan and Shona Mathers.
Here Mags explains why we wanted to share these with you:
“As a child you were perhaps fortunate enough to have someone who would read to you, which brought with it a deep source of comfort. Being read to as an adult can also allow us to relax into the text, and give us a sense of space and comfort, to reflect purely on the words and their present meaning to us.”
“As a team we wanted to offer you some sustenance by reading you a poem each day, hoping that it may just open a space for you to relax, reflect and be comforted.”
We would love to hear your experiences of listening to and reflecting on the poems. Please email any thoughts you wish to share to firstname.lastname@example.org using the subject line “daily poem”. We will post a summary of carers’ comments during the week with the Friday poem.
If there is interest, Mags will also run a haiku writing workshop for carers later in the year (haiku are a Japanese form of three line poems with a set numbers of syllables). Please email email@example.com to register your interest in such an event. We look forward to hearing from you!
