Mental Health Support

In a mental health crisis, please call NHS 24  on 111 and ask for a Psychiatric Nurse Advisor. You should be connected to the mental health cover for Lothian.

In a life threatening emergency, please call 999.

The Samaritans – Please call 116 123 for free. You can also email jo@samaritans.org. The phone line is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and offers someone to talk to if you are feeling overwhelmed or are thinking of hurting yourself or of suicide.

Breathing Space – Please call 0800 83 85 87. The phone line is open 24 hours at weekends (from 6 pm Friday through to 6 am Monday) and 6 pm to 2 am on weekdays (Monday to Thursday). The service is for anyone over the age of 16 in Scotland who is experiencing low mood, depression or anxiety. It is staffed by male and female advisors from mental health, counselling and social work backgrounds (not volunteers).

SHOUT – Please text SHOUT to 85258 for free. This is a 24 service for people who are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, lonely or suicidal and would prefer to text someone rather than talk.
