Changes to Carer Support Payment in March 2026

From 15 March 2026, important improvements are being introduced to carer support payments in Scotland. These include:

  • Scottish Carer Supplement being paid automatically to everyone receiving Carer Support Payment.
  • A new Carer Additional Person Payment (CAPP) for carers who look after more than one person.
  • Extended bereavement support for those who get Carer Support Payment from 8 weeks to 12 weeks when a cared‑for person dies.
  • All carer payments to be brought together into one regular Carer Support Payment.

Coalition of Carers in Scotland have put together a simple summary explaining all the changes and what they might mean for carers in Scotland.
