Donated Breaks for Carers

Carers of East Lothian are a Respitality Delivery Partner. Respitality is a simple, yet powerful, initiative which offers unpaid carers in Scotland a much-needed break, through partnerships with local hospitality, tourism and leisure businesses who are willing to donate a break free of charge. Respitality is a Scottish Government supported project delivered locally by Carers of East Lothian and coordinated nationally by Shared Care Scotland.

Breaks can be varied – everything from an overnight stay in a hotel, tickets to see a show, an afternoon tea, a massage or tickets to a sporting event. Carers of East Lothian rely on the generosity of local businesses and organisations to donate breaks for carers and then match these breaks to unpaid carers.

We have recently received some very generous offers from some East Lothian businesses.

  • We are very grateful to Maple Cottage B&B in Gullane who have donated a 2-night break to be taken between Wed 19th Feb – Mon 28th April inclusive. Please follow this link to view the cottage.
  • A huge thank you to Aimee from Wild Tide Yoga who has donated 4 x single class passes for Seasonal Yoga at on Thursday evenings from 6pm-7pm at the Abbey Church, North Berwick between 16th Jan and 3rd April. Carers can claim one session each.
  • Musselburgh Racecourse have very kindly donated 2 tickets to their Sky Bet Sunday Series Raceday on 13th April 2025.

In addition to these local breaks, we also have access to a few breaks in other areas of Scotland. These include overnight (or longer) stays and tickets to events and attractions.

Please contact us on 01316650135 or centre@coel.org.uk if you are an unpaid carer who would be interested in claiming one of these generous offers. These breaks are generally allocated on a first come first served basis but where there is a high level of interest Carers of East Lothian reserves the right to decide who will receive the break.

We would also like to remind carers that Wild Cairns Outdoor Activity Centre based at Whitekirk Hill have very kindly offered a 20% discount for unpaid carers who are registered with Carers of East Lothian when booking onto their activities.

Activities include an all ability assault course, gun range and axe throwing! Most of the activities are suitable for age 8+ and are very popular with adults too.

If you would like to take advantage of this discount, you will need to produce a letter to verify that you are registered with Carers of East Lothian. Please contact us on 01316650135 or centre@coel.org.uk if you’d like to request a letter.
