We are currently recruiting charity trustees for our Board of Directors. We are particularly keen to hear from people with experience in HR, Finance or Fundraising. A commitment to working as part of a group to guide CoEL’s work to improve the lives of carers is the most essential quality we need. Recent experience as a carer would also be highly valuable.
Carers of East Lothian exists to support all adults in a caring situation in East Lothian to get information and services to help their individual caring role, enhance their own wellbeing, and strengthen their collective voice to improve services. If you are interested in learning more about the organisation, you can view our website where you will find an overview of our services, and you can access our most recent Accounts and Annual Summaries here:
As both a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Registered Charity, our Board of Directors oversees the running of our organisation. Our Board usually meet around every two months, to make key decisions required for the organisation, particularly around strategy and development, and to monitor and evaluate progress against our objectives.
There are a number of legal duties and responsibilities that come with this role, and you can find out more about these in this guide from the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR):

The role is unpaid but expenses are paid. It involves a minimum commitment of around 24 hours spread over a year to attend, and prepare for, meetings. We operate a safe recruitment policy so all candidates will be subject to PVG checks etc.
