Wednesday: what brings me joy by Shona Mathers

One of the things that brings me joy is a ‘normal’ Saturday morning when my ten year old son attends Edinburgh Young Musicians (EYM). Listening to the class of children learning to play the recorder is heart warming and so moving. To learn to read music and play an instrument is an amazing skill, and a gift to self. And the teacher is just wonderful with the kids!

Being a part of a musical ‘family’ is a lovely experience, especially attending the concerts – hearing the singers and all the different musicians playing (the older teenagers are so good they sound like they are part of the theatre orchestra). The discipline and focus of the children is uplifting. I’m looking forward to when EYM can resume its weekly classes.
