Carers and Self-Isolation

The NHS Inform website has a useful Q&A regarding carers and self-isolation (advice correct at 13th March 2020)

If you’re a carer and need to self-isolate, you should discuss the needs of the person you care for with either your:

  • health protection team
  • social worker
  • primary care team – your GP or NHS 24 (111) out of hours

They’ll assess the risk to the health of the person you care for to find out what support they’ll need while you’re isolated.

Self-isolation means staying at home and not going to work, school or public areas.

You should also avoid close contact with others by:

– avoiding having visitors
– not using taxis or public transport
– asking a friend or neighbour to get any shopping you require, or arranging for a delivery that can be left at your door
– avoiding intimate contact (including kissing and sexual intercourse)
– not sharing towels, clothes, toothbrushes or razors
