As part of our “what brings me joy” series to mark Carers Week 2020 we invited carers to share any images of the things that gladden their hearts. Carer Jacki responded to our call with this inspiring story:
I am so proud of the person I care for…
He is my husband, David. At the age of 44 he had a nasty road traffic accident, which caused a stroke. He has been left with physical disability and severe cognitive impairment.
What brings me joy is seeing this man walk to the North Pole.
You can read me more about David’s incredible feats in the book Polar Stroke, which he wrote after his accident. In the book, David reveals how he used some of the same techniques he learned to survive in an icy wasteland to cope with the debilitating effects of his stroke.
