Today is the first day of Dementia Awareness Week. The theme this year is the power of friendship to support people with dementia
As the condition progresses, emotional connections and social interactions remain deeply significant. Friendship provides comfort, reassurance, and a sense of belonging, helping to combat feelings of isolation and loneliness, and can empower and support people with dementia to live well for as long as possible.
We can all make sure nobody faces dementia alone.
To celebrate this, Alzheimer Scotland, Dementia Friendly East Lothian, and East Lothian Health & Social Care Partnership are inviting you to: “Bring a Friend, Be a Friend”
All the activities listed on the linked document will welcome people with dementia, their families, and friends to come together to support one another and celebrate the power of friendship.
Dementia Awareness Week – East Lothian programme of activities
In addition to the activities that are running, the East Lothian Dementia Special Interest Group (ELDSIG) is launching “East Lothian Services and Resources for People Living with Dementia and Care Partners”
The special interest group is composed of staff from East Lothian Health & Social Care Partnership and Third Sector Organisations (Alzheimer Scotland, Carers of East Lothian, and Dementia Friendly East Lothian). We hope the document provides an accessible, “one-stop” overview of the services and resources that can benefit people living with dementia and care partners across East Lothian.
As with any document attempting to capture information that is liable to change, we can only promise that the details contained within are accurate at the time of recording (the document will be reviewed annually). Also, while we have attempted to gather as much relevant information as possible, we are mindful that there will be some things we do not know about!
