You may remember that earlier this year, we consulted with parent carers to help us to review the group support that we were offering. We received a fantastic response that has really helped to inform our redevelopment of the group support. Parent carers told us that they’d like to see us offering a combination of in person and online sessions, a variety of learning based sessions, self-care, opportunities to connect with other parent carers and opportunities to learn new skills.
We took all of the feedback on board and we designed a programme of group support that will be delivered over the next year. Learning themes include children’s mental health, strategies for managing challenging behaviour, self harm, neurodiversity and crisis handling. As well as this, there will be regular opportunities for self care and peer support around the county.
The first of the sessions happened last week. A group of parent carers came together at The Ridge in Dunbar to craft, chat and drink tea! It was a lovely, relaxed evening. The group chatted about their common ground, got creative and most importantly relaxed together! See below for pics of the mess and one of the lovely creations from the evening!

We have lots more planned for parent carers. For an outline of the programme, please see the poster below. Please note, you can now book into the self harm awareness training and the 5-week drumming course.
