Earlier this year, we asked carers supporting someone with mental health issues to share their thoughts on what would benefit them when attending carer support groups. We received lots of helpful feedback about the benefits of peer support, session formats, and the topics carers would like us to focus on. A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to contribute.
Our team has carefully reviewed the responses and used them to start planning the group’s programme for the coming year. We are pleased to share the first part of the programme with you. This group runs on a Tuesday night (last Tuesday of the month) at Port Seton Community Centre from 5:20 – 7:00pm. If you are interested in attending any of the sessions, please contact Claire on claire@coel.org.uk
Keep your eye on our website for details of further sessions as they are planned.
You may also be interested in reading about a session we ran for the mental health carer support group back in June, as part of our 30th anniversary celebrations in June. We were delighted to welcome a local Consultant Psychiatrist to give an insightful and informative talk to a group of carers.
The session explored the challenges facing mental health services and discussed how we can best support people experiencing mental health difficulties, as well as their families and carers, during these challenging times.
We were able to record the session. If you would like to watch this session, you can do so at this link: Link to watch talk with consultant psychiatrist
