On Friday 27th September, the sun came out at Musselburgh Lagoons. A group of adult carers attending with Carers of East Lothian and a group of young carers attending with the East Lothian Council Young Carers team came together for an intergenerational activity afternoon with the brilliant Venturing Out. Carers of all ages, lots of whom had never met before, made connections with one another while they tried new activities on the water and the land. Groups had the opportunity to try kayaking, team paddleboarding, canoeing and orienteering around the lagoons.
This is the third time the two carer organisations have collaborated to offer intergenerational experiences, following two treks with the John Muir Alpacas in 2023 and early 2024. At all of the intergenerational events, it has been a joy to see carers connecting with people they may not otherwise have met but with whom they have common ground. A supportive atmosphere full of laughter and learning was created.
We look forward to creating more intergenerational experiences for carers in the future.
With special thanks to East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership for enabling this event to be possible.
