Thursday: what brings me joy by Jess Wade

It’s a rock! A painted rock. Right there, just in that little gap in the wall.

We found that one on a walk last Autumn, and we have been finding, painting and hiding rocks ever since. The idea is that when you are out and about, for example on a walk in the countryside or at your local park, you take some painted rocks with you and hide them for others to find, or, if you’re lucky, you find some and take them with you to hide elsewhere.

I love doing this with my family; it gives us an excuse to get out and a focus when we do, it gives us something to do at home; finding, cleaning and painting suitable rocks, and more than anything, it gives us a connection.

The joy comes in when you realise that someone else took the time and trouble to leave you a message when they didn’t even know if or when you would be there, something to brighten your day and make you smile, and it invariably does.
